Madonna and Elton John have “buried the ax” after more than twenty years faced. This was reported by Madonna on her Instagram account by uploading an image of her with Elton John, both embraced and happy, in the Backstage of Saturday Night Live, where John has performed this past weekend with Brandi Carlisle to present her joint album.
Madonna has said that she planted on the set of Saturday Night Live this weekend as she learned that Elton acted on the program to “confront” for years of “contempt” towards her in the press. In the backstage, before going out, Elton saw Madonna, asked “forgiveness” and told her that she has written a song for her and wants both to collaborate.
Madonna and Elton have resolved a historic dispute on Monday. Madonna, in her post, remembers that she grew up admiring Elton John and points out that she never understood why Elton publicly despised her: «Throughout the decades it hurt to see that someone whom I admired I despised me publicly as an artist. I didn’t understand it ».
Madonna and Elton were cordial during the 80s and 90s, but their relationship was looked in in 2002 when Elton called ‘Die Another Day’ “The worst James Bond song in history” and twisted in 2004 when Elton accused Madonna of doing playback in her concerts after winning a prize for the best direct. Then, in 2012, Elton declared that the Mdna Tour was a “disaster” and that Madonna’s career was finished and called the singer “Stripper of Fair”, and her husband, David Furnish, belittled Madonna’s work in ‘Masterpiece’ – which won a golden balloon – and called her speech of gratitude “shameful in her narcissism.” That same year, Elton pointed to Madonna for “continuing fashions that they don’t go,” he suggested that “stop making dance music” and focus on being a “pop singer,” among other things.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that Madonna and Elton “Burn the ax.” In 2012, as the singer and producer Pshycotic Beats remembers in an Instagram comment, supposedly Madonna and Elton made peace after coinciding in a restaurant in Nice. This was narrated by the Irish Independent: «It seems that Madonna appeared in the petite Maison de Niza to chop something before his concert. When Elton was about to leave, he approached Madonna, both were laughing and hugged.
