While his third album, ‘Love in Real Life’, is still announced in networks, Lizzo has announced the launch of a mixtape that will be released before, this Friday, under the title of ‘My Face Hurts from Smiling’. It contains two great collaborations: Doja Cat appears on the theme ‘Still Can’t Fuh’, and SZA in ‘Irl’. In the mailing sent to his fans, Lizzo says that he has created ‘My Face Hurts from Smiling’ in a week, and that he has written 12 of his 13 tracks “in three days.”
The announcement of ‘My Face Hurts from Smiling’ implies the suspension of the launch of ‘Love in Real Life’, album from which two singles are known, ‘Love in Real Life’ and ‘Still Bad’, and a cut released in Saturday Night Live but still unpublished, ‘Don’s Make Me Love You’. None of the published singles has generated any impact on lists. Lizzo’s latest novelty has been the premiere of the model of ‘Still Bad’, which he herself seems “better” than the official version.
The recent controversies around Lizzo, particularly the complaints of abuse in 2023, could have affected the reception of their recent material. The concept of ‘My Face Hurts from Smiling’ seems to respond to the “Hate” received by the artist, although, in one of the visible computer tabs on the cover, Lizzo expresses an opposite feeling: “Everyone believes that I am fine, but I do not think it is.” Will you reflect on all this in this new work?
