Lizzo explains why there is no summer song

Lizzo has pointed to the algorithm as the reason why we don’t have an indisputable summer song. He has done it in a Tik Tok video in which he has also offered advice to emerging artists: “The music industry is a complete disaster right now, and you can use it in your favor,” he says.

In a recent article we talked about the fact that, this year, the summer song made more sense as a collective preference, due to the accelerated rhythms of an industry subject to streaming platforms. Lizzo says that before, although the industry was also “algorithmic,” this was “controlled”: “Now that we are in the digital age, the algorithm is out of control and is stressing people,” says Lizzo, including itself.

Lizzo proceeds to enumerate all the big artists who have taken music this year, such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga or Drake, before explaining the reason why this year there is no summer song: «I will be completely honest with you. It is not because music is not incredible, but because of the way the algorithm is mounted. No one can serve the masses ».

The American artist ends the video offering advice to the new artists: «Now is the time to show you out there. I would try to do all possible music, all possible content and hang it on the Internet, ”he concludes. This defines this year as an “incredible” for music: “What happens is that it has not been in your algorithm.”
