Little Simz Torea adversity in ‘Flood’

Little Simz, one of our header artists thanks to albums such as ‘Subtimes I Might Be Introvert’, winner of Mercury Prize 2022, has just announced his sixth work, ‘Lotus’. It will go on sale within a few months, specifically on May 9, through Awal Recordings. His first single, ‘Flood’, is our song of the day today.

It is a collaboration with Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly, marked by two things: in production, percussion; And in the visual, the bullfighting aesthetics. Only this comes to us on a dark background, it is not accompanied by the color attributed by the bullfighting world in Spain. The video is the work of the filmmaker Salomon LightHelm.

Obongjayar is responsible for displacing the intro that will really be the chorus (“while on the way for this evil soil, keep me away from the devil”), and Little Simz to spit the verses, which include phrases such as “you can change both as you want, but you know that I am the piece that is missing in the puzzle.”

Both keep the tension of the song living until in a third Little Stanza Simz displays a kind of 6 commandments, which include advice for survival. Some of them are “take care of yourself”, “don’t take it personal” and “not reactions to clones.”

According to XL’s press release in Spain, “Lotus embodies renewal and growth, reflecting the art of the evolving artist and the thematic trip of the album through the intricate phases of life.”
