A new MTV Video Music Awards gala will be held on September 11 in New York (the original date, September 10, has been moved to the next date so that it does not coincide with the electoral debate). Taylor Swift leads the nominations and among the favorites are also Billie Eillish, Chappell Roan, Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter.
Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are two of the confirmed performers for the ceremony. They are clearly the two breakout artists of 2024 in the world of pop. Also announced are performances by Rauw Alejandro, Camila Cabello and GloRilla.
Katy Perry is another of the performers announced, as she is currently promoting her new album, ‘143’, and will receive the MTV Vanguard Award, which recognises visionary artists in the world of music videos. In the past, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Shakira and Britney Spears have received this award, which was initially created to honour the career of Michael Jackson, its first recipient.
Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz and LISA are also joining the list of performers at the 2024 ceremony. According to Pop Crave, the latter will sing ‘New Woman’ alongside Rosalía. Meanwhile, Halsey will unveil a new song from her upcoming album.
