Linda Perhacs, the folk singer and songwriter whom we met through the revival of her beautiful 1970 album ‘Parallelograms’, has been reported missing. A group of friends and collaborators, including her former manager Laurel Stearns, and artists like Julia Holter, have released a statement online to try to locate the 82-year-old artist, who they say they have not heard from for eight months.
Perhacs had been living in an assisted living facility in the San Fernando Valley (California) for eight years, but “she was discharged under the supervision of her legal guardian.” Since then, neither she nor her legal guardian have responded to repeated contact attempts from those around her. Her circle asks that anyone with information about her whereabouts or health condition contact Laurel Stearns.
The publication is spreading rapidly throughout the music community. In the Instagram comments you can see messages from artists such as Robin Pecknold, leader of Fleet Foxes, or Glasser, asking if there is news about the case and helping to amplify the search.
The album ‘Parallelograms’ (1970), Perhacs’ only album for more than four decades, went unnoticed at the time, but ended up becoming a cult work thanks to its rediscovery. In 2014 he returned with ‘The Soul of All Natural Things’, produced after that unexpected rebirth of his career. Three years later, she published ‘I’m a Harmony’ (2017), her third album.
