Leire Martínez has shared a reflection on free love in men’s football during her performance at Barcelona Pride, just on the eve of the World Cup final. The author of ‘Stories of that girl’ has been clear with her request: normalize homosexuality in football.
The singer began by mentioning that she had been reflecting after hearing “how proud we are”: “It is true that it is Pride month and that we are now celebrating it in Barcelona, but I am also hearing this a lot with sports topics,” she said.
She clarified that she was proud of the performance of the Spanish National Team in the World Cup, but pointed out that “I wish as a country, as a society, we moved so much for other causes besides football and that causes such as freedom, equality, freedom, education or health were the issues that unite us and make us take to the streets.”
To finish off, Leire remembered the stigma that still exists in the male world of football regarding homosexuality, first remembering that “women in this sense have been much braver.” She won the applause of everyone present with her last words, aimed at building bridges: “Let’s see if the male sports world finally begins to normalize and make homosexuality visible,” she concluded.
