A few days after the launch on Spotify of the 16 songs that will compete in the next edition of Beniform Fest, it is possible to start talking about more and less listened to songs. In these initial days, the most played song is ‘Hartita de cry’ by LaChispa. Following, very closely, is Melody with ‘Esa Diva’. It seems that the fans of both may be overlapping, because Melody has 630,000 more listeners than LaChispa on Spotify and, however, ‘Hartita de Cry’ is ahead.
‘Hartita de Cry’ is a modernization of the Spanish tradition, in the style of Rosalía or C. Tangana. Clearly, the folkloric but contemporary bet to take from Spain to Eurovision. ‘Esa Diva’ draws on a flamenco-dance sound, let’s say, typically Eurovision. Of course, with a loud voice.
LaChispa and Melody double the listening of their next two competitors, ‘La Pena’ by DeTeresa – a modern song – and ‘Mala Feminista’ by Chica Suralto. The initial conclusion that can be drawn from these figures is that the public wants to hear flamenco again at Eurovision. Startle Girl, of course, benefits from her fandom created in Operación Triunfo.
The epic funk of ‘VIP’ by JK Bello and the mutant ‘Bésame’ by Carla Frigo, which goes from salsa to dance, are also among the public’s favorites in these early days. They are followed by the synth-pop of ‘Me gustas tú’ by K!ngdom, the very ‘Crazy in Love’ ‘Uh Na Na’ by Daniela Blasco and ‘Reinas’ by Sonia and Selena, in this initial top 8, because 8 will return to be the artists who qualify for the grand final.
Of course, these first numbers can change radically during the contest, since we must remember that Marlena started as favorites on Spotify, but later did not reach the final.
