Kylie Minogue premieres ‘Light Up’ and reveals her 2021 cancer diagnosis

Kylie Minogue has revealed in her new Netflix documentary that she suffered cancer for the second time in 2021, 16 years after her first diagnosis: “I was able to keep that to myself… Not like the first time,” says the Australian artist in ‘KYLIE’.

Minogue tells how she overcame cancer again, saying that her “passion for music” helped her through the most difficult times. Furthermore, she assures that it was difficult for her to find “the right moment” to announce it publicly after undergoing the treatment: “I don’t feel obligated to tell the world, and I really couldn’t at the time because I was a shell of a person.”

She remembers the great success of ‘Padam Padam’ and all the doors it opened, but also how she lived the situation from the inside out, coming to the point of not wanting to “leave the house at a given moment”: “I wanted to tell what had happened so I could let it go. “I sat in on interviews and every chance I got I thought it was time, but I kept it to myself.”

In promotional materials for the documentary, Minogue clarifies that sharing this second diagnosis was her choice, which took place during a routine check-up: “There will be someone there who will benefit from this reminder to do their check-ups. “Early detection was very helpful and I am very grateful to be able to say that I am fine today.” His song ‘Story’, from ‘Tension’, would be about this period of his life.

‘KYLIE’, the documentary, premieres today on Netflix and, along with it, an unreleased song by Minogue, ‘Light Up’, arrives on the platforms, a folk-pop cut with rhythmic acoustic guitars and an uplifting energy in the style of her album ‘Golden’.
