Just a few days ago The Breeders They were performing in Barcelona, but now the surprise is that Kim Deal releases his first solo single, “Coast”, which you can now listen to.
We know Kim Deal very well for being a bassist during the years of greatest creative explosion of Pixies and later for directing together with his sister The Breedersand even for captaining the project The AmpsBut we hadn’t heard it solo yet, but that time has come.
Kim Deal has just released the song “Coast,” the first single she’s released under her own name for the 4AD label. It’s a song Deal wrote in 2020 after attending “her friend Mike Montgomery’s wedding when the local band, The Grape Whizzers, performed Jimmy Buffett’s 1977 ‘Margaritaville’ with revealing levels of low self-esteem.” Although the original idea for the song was born years ago, when Deal took a retreat for a few difficult days on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts.
Finally, “Coast” was recorded by the recently deceased Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. As for the band accompanying Deal on the recording, they are Lindsay Glover, Mando Lopezhis sister Kim Kelley on the guitar, and the marching band Chicago Mucca Pazza.
