As Pixies continue to perform live and release new music (we’ve had a couple of samples this year), their former bassist announces his first solo album.
Kim Deal has been releasing solo singles for the past decade, but it won’t be until November 22 that she’ll release her debut album. It’s called ‘Nobody Loves You More’ and it’s anchored by a new single called ‘Crystal Breath’. That’s not the only song you know from the album, though.
Of the dozen singles that Kim Deal has uploaded to streaming platforms over the last decade, some will be included on the album and others will not. The recent ‘Coast’ will be included, and on the other hand ‘Are You Mine?’ and ‘Wish I Was’, which were written in 2011 and released in 2013.
The album even featured collaborations with the late Steve Albini, according to XL’s press release: “The final recording of ‘Nobody Loves You More’ took place in November 2022 with legendary engineer and close friend Steve Albini, who helmed the final track ‘A Good Time Pushed’ at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago.”
Other contributors have included past and present Breeders (Mando Lopez, twin sister Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, Britt Walford), Raymond McGinley (Teenage Fanclub), Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs), and Fay Milton of Savages.
Thematically, “Every song has a story behind it, from winter vacations with her parents in the Florida Keys (‘Summerland’) to her wedding band’s covers of ‘Margaritaville’ (‘Coast’) to her mother’s dementia (‘Are You Mine?’). Ultimately, the record is a celebration of Deal’s peerless artistry, nodding not only to the highlights of her career with celebrated bands across the alternative scene (Pixies, The Amps, The Breeders), but also to her unshakable cultural clout, influencing musicians like Kurt Cobain and Olivia Rodrigo across generations.”
