Kelela will mix genres, from R&B to grunge, in ‘new avatar’

Kelela has made official the announcement of her third album, titled ‘new avatar’. As the two available previews already indicate, especially ‘idea 1’, the author of ‘Raven’ will mix electronic music and R&B, her usual domain, with the guitars of shoegaze and grunge. ‘new avatar’ will be available starting July 10.

It is known that ‘new avatar’ will pay tribute to the artist’s beginnings in the Washington DC scene, when she was part of a progressive metal band called Dizzy Spells. In addition to the mix of genres, the album will also include collaborations with PinkPantheress, Fousheé and AK Paul.

According to the artist herself, ‘new avatar’ finds “comfort in confrontation,” aiming for music not to be “a distraction from what’s really happening in the world”: “I want it to make sense in this crazy time while helping people stay in touch with the beauty and joy they’re also experiencing.”
