After the commercial failure of ‘Woman’s World’, the first single from her new album, Katy Perry makes a move and officially releases ‘Lifetimes’, a song that she has been teasing for weeks on social media or at the various parties she has attended to promote it, such as Churros in Barcelona.
‘Lifetimes’ has come so far that the entire song feels like the same preview you’ve heard, repeated over and over again. The repetition is deliberate, as the composition of ‘Lifetimes’ is based on repeating pre-chorus, chorus and post-chorus over and over again. Lost in the piece is the only verse that was written for the song.
Although the structure of ‘Lifetimes’ seems patchwork, putting one hook after another without much thought, the song delivers by sounding like an easy and generic but well-produced house-pop that neither reinvents the wheel nor pretends to, and, above all, by creating a great chorus that can be sung at the top of your lungs wherever it plays.
Adding to the story of ‘Lifetimes’ is the fact that it is a very personal song for Katy Perry, as it is inspired by her relationship with her daughter, Daisy, to whom she tells every night before going to sleep that she will love her “for several lifetimes, until eternity.” However, the lyrics of ‘Lifetimes’ manage to be universal enough to mean different things to different people.
While in Spain, Perry has filmed the music video for ‘Lifetimes’ in Ibiza, in which, in addition to partying and swimming in the Balearic Sea, evoking (with all due respect) the music video for ‘Teenage Dream’, she reveals the tracklist for her album, ‘143’, which reads as follows:
The tracklist of ‘143’
