Katseye is a new Group Group created in Los Angeles that is composed of six members from four different countries: Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States. Two record labels, Hybe and Geffen Records, are behind this “global girl group” that already kneads hundreds of millions of streaming views.
His ‘debut’ of 2024 gave way in August of that year to the launch of ‘Touch’, a theme of British influences similar to those of the dissolved Newjaans. In 2025, Katseye’s great success is ‘Gnarly’, today’s song.
‘Gnarly’ draws attention for its electronic and corrosive beat, which refers – bypassing the distances – to Sophie’s work, specifically, to the production of ‘Faceshopping’. The influence can come from the song’s composer, also the Chinese singer and DJ based in Los Angeles Alice Longyu Gao, an artist associated with Hyperpop.
On this hard base of urban style, Manon, Sophia, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae list all the things that can be described with the word “Gnarly”, which comes from US jargon and means something like “brutal.” What they are of course is that they are “as hot as a bag of takis”, which are “the host” and that this song, specifically, “cool everything” (“it’s so lit” in the original lyrics). The video clip is the expected visual leftover.
