2023 has been the best year of Karol G’s career. From the release of ‘Mañana Sera Bonito’, her victory for Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys or even the three sold-out concerts at the new Bernabéu, she has managed to be the woman protagonist of music in Spanish. So much so that Billboard has named her Woman of the Year 2024 at its annual women’s gala, a recognition that artists such as SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have obtained in the past.
“With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women around the world due to her empowering lyrics and unabashed confidence,” said Hannah Karp, director of Billboard. «The release of her groundbreaking album ‘Mañana Sera Bonito’ has proven that she is a force to be reckoned with on both the English and Spanish charts. “We are very excited to honor her as Woman of the Year.”
Karol G made history on the Billboard 200 by debuting her latest album in the first position, thus being the first time that a woman has taken number 1 on the list thanks to an album in Spanish. Later, the success would be supported by critics, as it triumphed at the Latin Grammys by winning the award for Album of the Year, the most important award in Latin music. This Sunday, in addition, the Colombian won her first Grammy after the victory of ‘Mañana Sera Bonito’ for Best Urban Music Album.
The Billboard Women in Music Awards, which will honor Karol G as Woman of the Year, will be held on March 6 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. Other winners will be Kylie Minogue, who will receive the Icon Award; Maren Morris, who will receive the Visionary Award; Ice Spice, who will receive the Hitmaker Award; Charli XCX, who will receive the Powerhouse Award; or Victoria Monét, who will receive the Emerging Star Award.
