Julio Iglesias takes eldiario.es and Yolanda Díaz to court

eldiario.es reports that Julio Iglesias has filed a complaint against the media itself, its director, Ignacio Escolar, and four of its journalists: Juan Luis Sánchez, María Ramírez, Ana Requena and Elena Cabrera.

The singer accuses them of the alleged crimes of libel with publicity, slander and a crime against moral integrity due to the information published about the testimony of two former workers who reported having suffered sexual assaults. Furthermore, his defense anticipates that he will demand compensation of a “significant amount.”

According to eldiario.es, the complaint comes after the media refused to rectify or withdraw this information in a conciliation ceremony held a month ago. eldiario.es maintains that the journalistic work was carried out for three years, that the testimonies were verified and that it tried without success to obtain Julio Iglesias’ version before its publication. He also denies having manipulated the statements of the complainants and explains that the use of actresses to dub their voices responded solely to the need to protect their identity.

In parallel, Julio Iglesias has also sued the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, for statements made after hearing about the case. The singer demands 50,000 euros for an alleged interference in his right to honor and asks that he retract it publicly.

eldiario.es maintains that both the complaint and the lawsuit against Yolanda Díaz are based on “false facts” and defends the rigor of its investigation.
