Julio Iglesias is trying to prove his innocence on Instagram. After the Prosecutor’s Office refused to allow the accused access to the investigation due to the complaints of two of his former employees for sexual assault, Iglesias has decided to defend himself on his own by publishing WhatsApp conversations that he would have had with the complainants.
The singer’s Stories begin with a statement: “Given the refusal of the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office to allow me to exercise my defense in the procedure and to give me formal access to the complaint, I am forced to speak out publicly,” it begins. He describes Instagram as “the only means that allows me to legitimately exercise my right to defense and record the absolute falsehood of the reported facts.”
The following series of Stories consists of a series of screenshots that supposedly show WhatsApp conversations between the accused and his former employees, both during the time they were working with him and afterwards, as can be deduced from the last screenshot.
Let us remember that the women who denounced Iglesias’ abuse in the elDiario.es and Univision Noticias investigation had used pseudonyms. In the screenshots of the singer, he appears having conversations, mostly unilateral, with contacts named as Stephany Abreu, Stephany Low and María Alejandra Feliz.
Iglesias assures that these captures show “the incoherence of the complaints and media manipulation” that he says he is experiencing: “The communications after leaving demonstrate that the information disseminated lacks veracity,” he wrote.
These messages begin with Abreu, supposedly the physiotherapist who would have reported the singer, wishing him good night: “I love you very much and if you need anything from me, I am here at your entire disposal, thank you for your patience and your teachings today, every day at your side is valuable to me because I learn a little more.” The messages are dated April 20, 2021.
Stephany’s following messages follow the same line, until in September 2022 she no longer appears as “Stephany Abreu”, but as “Stephany Low”. She congratulates him on his birthday: «I always remember you, with love. Atte: Stephany Abreu, your physiotherapist forever.
In the last capture, the person identified as María Alejandra Feliz, the alleged second complainant, sends a message to who appears to be one of the mansion’s chief staff: “I would like to wish the man a happy new year, but he surely doesn’t want to hear from me…”
This from Julio Iglesias is a tantrum from a person who has never been questioned. Whether or not there are messages does not invalidate or mean that the reported situations did not occur. pic.twitter.com/vqQcWTIcQ7
