Juanma Carrillo, director of La Bien Querida, La Casa Azul, dies…

Juanma Carrillo has passed away at the age of 46, Elefant reports in a text published on Instagram. Carrillo – a native of La Rioja – has worked closely with Elefant, directing music videos, especially for La Bien Querida, La Casa Azul and Soleá Morente, although his work in the world of directing also extended to the disciplines of film and advertising.

Carrillo’s music videos for the three singles that launched ‘Premeditación, Nocturnidad y Alevosía’, La Bien Querida’s 2015 EP trilogy, specifically for ‘Poderes extraños’, ‘Ojalá estabas muerto’ and ‘Muero de amor’, enriched the project’s discourse, elevating it to one of the best albums of the 21st century according to JENESAISPOP, and even being published on DVD.

Carrillo worked with La Bien Querida again in the following years and, for example, directed the video for ‘Dinamita’, which was ultimately the most popular song of Ana Fernández-Villaverde’s career. He was also behind the video for ‘7 días juntos’, among others.

As we said, La Casa Azul also worked with Juanma Carrillo, who had Carrillo direct the music videos for ‘ATARAXIA’ and ‘El final de amor eterna’, two of the singles taken from ‘La Gran Esfera’ (2019); and Soleá Morente, who had his services for the music videos for ‘Iba a decírtelo’, ‘El bufanda de estrella’ or ‘Domingos’ with Isa Cea from Triángulo de Amor Bizarro. Carrillo was also the author of the music video for ‘Patria’ by La Habitaciones Roja.

That video for ‘Patria’ was released in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and precisely about the future of music videos in the context of confinement, Carrillo spoke with JENESAISPOP in a special report, in which he also shared some details of his way of working.

A graduate in audiovisual production in Madrid and Paris, Carrillo worked in film and advertising before jumping into the world of music videos, directing works such as ‘Caníbales’ or the award-winning ‘To Play at Crying’, ‘Cuerpos deshonrados’ and ‘Nineteen Forty One’. He was also the author of the ‘Born Heroes’ advert inspired by David Bowie – and praised by the artist, according to Carrillo on his website – and starring Elena Anaya. Among his most recent works, Carrillo directed Antonio Banderas for the Andalusia Tourism Campaign.
