Juanjo Bona joins forces with El Buen Hijo to create a pop jota

Several contestants of Operación Triunfo 2023 have agreed to release a single at the same time in this first month of summer. This is the case, for example, of Paul Thin, who has just released ‘Alondra’, and also of Juanjo Bona, who has released ‘Mis tías’.

Fourth finalist of Operación Triunfo 2023, Zaragoza native Juanjo Bona has become a seasoned jota singer. ‘Mis tías’ brings the jota to pop, but it is surprising to see that its credits include Alicia Ros and Marco Frías, two of the five members of El buen hijo (Alicia is also part of Cariño). At the production table we find Marcel Bagès and David Soler.

In ‘Mis tías’, therefore, Juanjo Bona aims to bring tradition to pop, in an autobiographical song that he dedicates to the “women in his life.” Not to his blood aunts, but to the workers at the university residence where he lived for two and a half years while studying Naval Engineering at the Mendel College in Madrid.

In ‘Mis tías’, Juanjo portrays Luisa, Paqui, Macu, Bea, Maribel, Choni, Eva and Filo, whom he mentions by name, recalling with nostalgia his different interactions with them, while the acoustic guitars mark the rhythm of the jota. The sensitivity of El buen hijo is perceived in the melody of ‘Mis tías’, at the same time that Juanjo exhibits that vocal power for which he is known.

Juanjo Bona’s tribute to his “aunts” is rounded off with a video clip filmed at the Mendel College in which the aforementioned women appear. ‘Mis tías’ is already on its way to reaching a million plays on Spotify.
