Jonathan Meléndez of Camilo Séptimo, his partner and his daughter murdered

Shock in the world of music due to the death at the age of 38 of Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist and founder of Camilo Séptimo. The musician, known artistically as Honas, was murdered along with three other people this Tuesday in Atizapán, in the State of Mexico. Meléndez was a founding member of the Mexican band, author of albums such as ‘Navegantes’ (2019).

Among the other victims are his wife, 35 years old and four months pregnant, and their daughter, just three years old. A domestic worker was also murdered. Another six-year-old son of the couple was found alive and without apparent injuries.

Authorities have arrested two men for the murders. One of them, Diego Sebastián “N”, was a partner of Meléndez and is identified as the alleged perpetrator. The robbery is one of the main lines of investigation, since he would have been able to access the home with the consent of the victims due to his relationship with the musician.

Crime has once again put the spotlight on Mexico’s levels of violence. According to data from Causa en Común cited by EL PAÍS, between January 2020 and March 2026, 3,036 massacres have been documented in the country. The two suspects were arrested less than 12 hours after the events.

The reactions of Mexican artists and those close to the scene have not been long in coming. Midnight Generation wrote “we love you, Honas. Thank you for everything you left”, while Motel has expressed that “we accompany you in your pain.” Clubz has sent “a lot of light and a lot of strength” to his friends and Silvana Estrada has summed up her reaction in “I am very sorry. there are no words. Bruses, Mauricio Barrientos and Little Jesus, among others, have also shared farewell messages.
