‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ plummets at the box office

The bad reviews and word of mouth against it have condemned ‘Joker: Folie à deux’ and the film is one of the commercial failures of 2024. After years of teasers, in which each image or each trailer was news of world order, the public has not responded. The fact that it is a musical but has not been promoted as such for this target is one of the main reasons.

The film, which cost 200 million dollars, is having difficulty achieving profitability, since according to Variety, its “break-even” would be around 450 million dollars. The first ‘Joker’ cost only 65 million and grossed more than 1,000.

Initially, Boxoffice Pro anticipated that the film would debut with around $100 million in the United States and Canada, surpassing the $96 million with which the first ‘Joker’ debuted. Later, he reduced the forecast to 70 million, then to 55, then to 45 and finally the film debuted with just under 38 million dollars in these territories.

The data for the second week has also been bad, with a drop of around 70% and 80% at the box office, depending on the country. In total, 52 million dollars have been raised in the United States and Canada, and 113 million in the rest of the world. The total 166 million are well below expectations, far from the aforementioned “break-even” and it has already been announced that the film will be able to be seen streaming in a very few weeks: on October 29, this month.

Although it seems very difficult that with her arrival in Max, the film or the songs inspired by it collected in ‘Harlequin’ can take flight, Lady Gaga has nothing to worry about. His duet with Bruno Mars ‘Die With a Smile’ has been at global number 1 on Spotify for 52 days, adding 600 million streams in just 2 months. It may be the biggest success in its history. The single that anticipates his new album is still scheduled for this month, at this point of the week, we understand that it will already be on October 25.
