This weekend, two members of BLACKPINK have decided to release music at the same time. Jisoo has released ‘CLICK’, the first preview of her long-awaited debut album, expected because Jisoo remains the only BLACKPINK member who has not released a full-length album. For her part, LISA has released ‘SaWaDiKa’, a song whose title may be confusing if you read it diagonally.
Both offer different styles. Jisoo, first of all, presents a pleasant dance-pop and synthpop song with an uptempo rhythm, very much in the vein of the 80s Carly Rae Jepsen, where the melody and a certain elegance in the vocal and synthesizer production prevail. The video clip is a good blockbuster.
LISA, on the other hand, is all bravura and aggressiveness in a much more urban and production-laden song. ‘SaWaDiKa’ comes from Thai and means “hello.” The video clip is very Rosalía, perhaps too much so.
You will prefer one or the other depending on whether you prefer the stylized eighties sound of JISOO or prefer the excess in every sense of LISA. The public, at the moment, seems to opt for the second, at least according to Spotify figures, and ‘SaWaDiKa’ is already establishing itself as a small global success: it remains around the 30 most listened to songs in the world four days after its release.
Some suggest that Spotify’s measures against bots are affecting both, while on YouTube things would remain the same. On that platform, ‘SaWaDiKa’ has 141 million views four days after its premiere, a figure that is difficult to assimilate.
‘CLICK’, on the other hand, has “only” 28 million views on YouTube, while on Spotify it has just over 4 million, a figure that LISA doubles with ‘SaWaDiKa’. Jisoo’s video, at least, is much better. The song… at the moment the public votes for LISA. Which one do you stay with?
