Jennifer Finch, bassist and co-founder of L7, has died at the age of 59 after a long fight against aggressive brain cancer. The news has been confirmed by the band itself through a statement released on their social networks.
Born in Los Angeles in 1966, Finch was one of the fundamental pieces of L7 since its incorporation in 1986. With the group she participated in some of the most influential alternative rock albums of the nineties, such as “Bricks Are Heavy” (1992), which included the now classic “Pretend We’re Dead”, and “Hungry for Stink” (1994). After leaving the formation in 1996, he returned with the band’s reunion in 2014 and has been part of its activity again for the last decade.
In addition to her career as a musician, Finch developed a career as a photographer, documenting the Los Angeles punk scene since the late 1970s, and spearheaded projects such as The Shocker and OtherStarPeople.
Just a few days ago, L7 had announced that Finch would not be able to participate in the group’s farewell tour after announcing that he was suffering from aggressive brain cancer. The band then launched a campaign to help defray the high costs of his treatment. As explained by the group, the tour will continue this fall, as she had expressed that she wanted.
