Julieta is one of the revelations of national pop in recent years. Her singles ‘Cari’, ‘T’enxules’, ‘Lokura’ and ‘Full Romance’ have accumulated millions of views, as well as her collaborations with Belén Aguilera (‘Thelma & Louise’), Oques Grasses (‘Com el dia i la nit’ ) or Mushkaa (‘Vaya liada’), and the artist, with three mixtapes already published, is selling out tickets.
Since the beginning of 2024, Julieta has officially been a Sony Music artist and her debut in the multinational universe is expected like a May day. ‘Jean Blau’ is her third solo single at the current stage of her career, after ‘haiku’ and ‘Full Romance’, and you should listen to it if you are interested in Anglo-Saxon pop like Camela Cabello, Addison Rae, Halsey, etc.
‘Jean Blau’ is not an international production, but it seems that way. The base is signed by Phoac, that is, the Barcelona producer Pau Vehí, who places Julieta in a trap-pop context and wraps her voice in a storm of synthesizers that goes from less to more. A voice that sounds filtered by autotune, in a symbolic way, while Julieta sings about unrequited love. The one who doesn’t belong is her.
“It’s a bitch to fall in love with me,” Julieta sings in ‘Jean Blau’. And she keeps the boundaries clear: the boy who has fallen in love with her will be no more than a “fan”, because she is inaccessible like a “pop star”. “This song is a cry for freedom,” explains Julieta. “It’s about letting go of everything that doesn’t let you move forward. It’s like saying: ‘This is my train; If you want, get on, but don’t stop me.
The simple music video for ‘Jean Blau’ includes a reference to Britney Spears’ performance of ‘…Baby One More Time’ in the rain on her 2002 Dream Within a Dream Tour. Juliet seems like a pop star made in the Spears mold, but let’s say she would never sing ‘Born to Make You Happy’: “I don’t write songs for you” is her motto, rather.
Julieta performs this Friday, December 13 at the Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, with everything sold out. Next January 11, Julieta closes her JURU LA JU TOUR at the Sala BUT in Madrid: there are tickets left for this show.
