Not content with belonging to one of the most famous musical families in history, Janet Jackson has revealed that her family tree includes two other prominent people from the music industry, namely, Stevie Wonder and Tracy Chapman.
Jackson, who has visited the UK to promote her ‘Together Again’ tour, which hits the islands in September, revealed during an interview on BBC Radio 2 that she is Wonder and Chapman’s cousin. “People don’t know this, but Stevie Wonder is a cousin on my mother’s side,” the singer said. “And so is Tracy Chapman.” Janet mentions a third person, the actor Samuel L. Jackson. When the presenter Scott Mills asks her, astonished, if she is really also the ‘Pulp Fiction’ actor’s cousin, Janet replies: “Brother, of course not.”
Janet Jackson seems to be serious, although it is difficult to prove the veracity of her statements. At least according to TMZ, Stevie is Janet’s distant third cousin “on Katherine’s side of the family,” the Jackson matriarch, although the site does not provide evidence. However, on the other hand, Samuel L. Jackson denied being linked to the Jackson family in a 2017 interview and, according to the Los Angeles Times, online records “show no direct relationship between Janet and her, in her words, cousins.”
