JADE opens the “Ready for the Weekend” playlist with ‘It Girl’, the umpteenth introductory single from her debut album. Throughout 2024, JADE – real name Jade Thirlwall – has surprised the world by standing out from the footsteps of the band that made her known, Little Mix, with a series of very fresh and surprising singles, especially ‘Angel of My Dreams’, one of the Best Songs of 2024, but also ‘Fantasy’ and its chic tribute to disco music.
Her time on X Factor marks ‘It Girl’, a song dedicated to the emancipation of JADE. The lyrics are clear and defiant in their quest for independence: “I’m not your object, I’m not your doll, I’m not a puppet, you can’t control this bitch.” The last phrase that JADE pronounces in the song, “it’s a no for me,” is a direct reference to the program’s jury.
To tell this story of liberation, JADE chooses a sound located halfway between Eurovision melody and electropop and electroclash design production, and uses a skillfully disjointed composition, written together with her collaborators Cirkut (Kesha, Ava Max) and Lostboy: Something of ‘Padam Padam’ and Kylie in general has this production.
