Jade Thirlwall, known as JADE in her solo career, has released what is automatically one of the best pop songs of the year – and one of the most unexpected. ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ is JADE’s first solo single following Little Mix’s ‘break’ in 2022. It’s Song of the Day.
Although ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ on paper seems like a standard 3-minute pop track, once you hit play the track the surprises come one after another. It begins as an emotional and grandiose pop ballad, with the British artist singing to the music industry and her love/hate relationship with it: “Angel of my dreams / I’ll always love you and hate you, it’s not fair.”
Everything changes from the first verse, when it becomes clear that Angel Of My Dreams is actually a chameleon-like summer banger. “You only care about money / Selling my soul to a psychopath / They say I’m lucky / Act like you’re lucky, baby,” JADE raps. The music video is the perfect complement to the song, condensing her entire musical career with the help of 11 different looks and videos from her time on Factor X.
“I wanted the song to sound chaotic,” says JADE, and she succeeds in doing so in spades. The music keeps changing sections and tempo, with the ability to be emotional at the same time. The video includes a cameo from Fontaines DC vocalist Grian Chatten, who is dressed in a lime green tracksuit, also worn in the video for ‘Starburster’. Chatten is in his brat summer.
