Jack White has surprised us these days by releasing a new album in a unique way: giving it away with a purchase at Third Man Records stores, available in London, Nashville and Detroit. It should be noted that Third Man Records was founded by White in 2001. Finally, White’s album, titled ‘No Name’, is officially released this Friday, August 2.
Some lucky customers of these record stores have recently found a copy of a mysterious vinyl next to their purchase. The cover, with no information about the contents apart from a label that read “Unnamed,” was also missing. According to Rolling Stone, White’s publicist was also unaware of this surprise release.
At the same time, Detroit radio station WDET, located down the street from the Third Man Records store, played the entire album live, with the album subsequently being uploaded to YouTube. While it is not known whether the album will receive a more widespread physical release, subscribers to Third Man Records’ service have also received the album in their email.
Available online, the album makes it clear that it is the work of Jack White, with a series of powerful blues and rock songs with their recognizable riffs.
