Iñaki Fernández has died at age 64 in the early hours of this Saturday as a consequence of a cancer against which he had been fighting for “several months,” his Glutamato classmates have confirmed Ye-Yé.
«Today is sad news for our group. Goodbye Iñaki. You will be in our glutames hearts, ”the band has written on their Instagram account. Previously, the journalist Julio Ruiz and Jesús Ordovás, who knew firsthand the music scene of the movement, had already confirmed it in their profiles.
The glutamate leader Ye-Yé also became an icon of the movement, largely thanks to his image, which directly remembered that of Adolf Hitler. He founded the group with Ramón Recio in 1979 and then Manuel Patacho Recio and Jacinto Golderos Adrenas joined. It was in the mid -80s when the group lived its greatest moment of success, thanks to songs like ‘All Negritos are hungry (and cold)’.
This theme was part of the homonym album that the group published in 1984 and with which it enjoyed a certain commercial success. Two years later, the group dissolved, but returned in 1987 to say goodbye with a last concert. Since then, they have only gathered once again, in 2008.
«Sad news. Unrepeatable personality and charisma. Fundamental name in the history of music 80s of this city its band, glutamate Ye-yé, and he, Iñaki Fernández. We pay tribute … », the journalist Julio Ruiz reported in X.
«Iñaki Glutamato has left us, an exceptional being, a great artist, an ingenious, fun, good person in every way. The nights and days of Madrid will be worse without their presence, their grace and their performances. That Poch welcomes him in the hereafter, ”said Jesús Ordovás on the other hand.
