GoFundMe in aid of Kraig Johnson (The Jayhawks, Golden Smog…)

The musician’s family Kraig Jarret Johnson (Golden Smog, Run Westy Run) has opened a GoFundMe to raise funds for the cancer treatment he is currently undergoing.

The veteran musician of the Minneapolis indie scene, who has played in bands such as Golden Smog, Run Westy Run, The Jayhawks and other groups over the past thirty years, has been diagnosed with cancer. After undergoing surgery to remove a third of his colon, doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. As his family explains, due to chemotherapy he will not be able to work for a year and in order to cover his medical expenses they have decided to open a GoFundMe.

In the family’s words: “For the next few months, he will be undergoing chemotherapy and will not be able to work. Our mother will be Kraig’s primary caregiver and they will both be out of work for the foreseeable future. We are fundraising to cover household expenses (possibly for the rest of the year) as well as the endless medical bills they will have. It seems like an inappropriate time to ask for community support; we wouldn’t be asking for funds if we had a choice. We hope to support our mother and Kraig so they can be housed, fed, and fight this battle.”

The good news is that the amount that the family requested for the treatment has been achieved and exceeded, meaning that all this income will be a lifeline for the musician and his family.
