Agnes, the Swedish diva that became known with the enormous ‘relaase me’, returns. Four years after the recommended ‘Magic Still Exists’ (2021), the artist’s new album is coming.
‘Balenciaga Covered Eyes’ is the first advance of the new Agnes project, and it is his song about crying at the disco. It is the song of the day.
That is literally the stage of the letter: “Behind my eyes covered by (glasses of) Balenciaga, in the shelter of a crowd that dances, under the lights and the lasers, I cry.” Agnes expresses the pain of a rupture dancing until dawn. And then he leaves after. There, the DJ “click punk music” and she continues “drinking too much” as she wears her expensive dress.
Agnes does not lose elegance or after drinking more glasses, and the production of ‘Balenciaga Covered Eyes’ is haute couture. Producers Vincent Pontare & Outrvert deliver an exciting merge of Club House, dance novelty and ballroom that transforms Agnes into a goddess of the track. She says she has inspired Róisín Murphy’s music (it shows) but also the art of Mark Rothko (there is less).
The tension of ‘Balenciaga Covered Eyes’, masterfully transmitted to score, is that of a person who keeps the glamor even though it is broken inside: “It all started with an image that I saw in my mind: a person in the middle of the chaos of luxury, the holidays, the disorder and the looks,” says the artist. “Someone who seems safe from herself and brilliant on the outside, but inside which something else is happening, behind those” eyes covered by Balenciaga “but the song was also born of a sensation: I wanted to write something that I would like to hear when I come out a weekend.”
