Country Gavin Adcock singer is not happy that his album ‘Own Worst Enemy’ appears on the Apple Music country list below ‘Cowboy Carter’ by Beyoncé. Actually, his album does not go until August 15, only 8 of his 24 tracks can be heard, but despite this, Gavin believes that his album should be above Beyoncé’s, because ‘Cowboy Carter’ does not seem country at all.
In a recent concert, Adcock has exploded, bottle in hand: «That shit is not country music, it has never been country music and it will never be country music. And now we are going to touch some southern rock fucking ».
Then, no bottle in my hand, he wanted to clarify on Instagram: «I will clarify this: when I was little, my mother put Beyoncé at the car in the car. I have heard a lot of songs from Beyoncé and in fact I remember that his intermediate of the Super Bowl grinded a lot at the time. But I don’t think your album should be classified as country music. It does not sound country, he does not feel country, and I do not believe that people who have dedicated their lives to this genre and this lifestyle, have to compete or see this album on the lists just because it is Beyoncé ».
Where Gavin Adcock was involved when Beyoncé won in the last Grammys is a mystery: what it seems is that he now has a new album to promote. Beyoncé’s album was not only made with the statuette at the album of the year but for the best Country album surpassing deliveries as disparate as those of Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson.
The diversity of nominees is the living portrait that the country is mutating, exactly the same as the rock category (where we found Green Day with Fontaines DC, the latter with electronic strokes or even rap) or the R&B category, which now has the controversial surname of “Progressive”. Perhaps if we understood all categories as something stagnant that cannot change, it would not make sense to deliver Grammys at all, because each launch would be without more a mimesis of the past.
Billboard has asked his opinion about all this to Beyoncé’s team, but maybe he has better things to do …
