This weekend this improvised musical moment took place backstage at the Hollywood Bowl: Joni Mitchell, sitting in the middle, like the matriarch she is, sings ‘I’m Still Standing’ by Elton John alongside the aforementioned and also with Chappell Roan, Lucy Dacus and Brandi Carlisle. Allison Russell, Tim Hanseroth and Blake Mills also accompany. Carlisle has proclaimed the group the “gay mafia.”

On the one hand we have had St. Vincent in Spain singing in the Prado. On the other hand, Caroline Polachek has surprised by filling the Orangerie Museum in Paris with magic, dedicated to impressionist and post-impressionist art. Polachek has not sung an original song, but has chosen one by Radiohead, ‘True Love Waits’.
