The first weekend of Coachella has once again been tremendously covered in the media and commented on online thanks to the outstanding performances of the three main headliners: Sabrina Carpenter, who served as a star with a cameo by Susan Sarandon; Justin Bieber, who has surprised by pulling YouTube; and Karol G, who has offered a Latin show, being the first Latin woman to headline the Californian festival.
But many other things have happened throughout these days. In fact, there have been so many invited artists at the scheduled concerts that a parallel poster could practically be designed with them, including several names that could have been headliners at this or other festivals.
Thus, we have seen, for example, Billy Corgan, from The Smashing Pumpkins, join Sombr to perform ‘1979’; Camila Cabello appearing on Young Thug’s set to sing ‘Havana’ (Young was a guest artist on the song); to MIA shoot ‘Paper Planes’ alongside Major Lazer; Jennifer Lopez joining David Guetta to sing their recent joint single ‘Save Me Tonight’, or Lizzo playing the flute with Sexyy Red… and twerking with a Labubu.
We have also seen curiosities such as Paulina Rubio’s cameo at the Morat concert, or the K-pop explosion when seeing the vocalists of ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ perform ‘Golden’ alongside KATSEYE. We can’t get enough of the cameos: suddenly you could see Vanessa Carlton and Joe Jonas singing at the Teddy Swims concert, or dancer Maddie Ziegler (known for her collaborations with Sia) join Addison Rae to dance to ‘Aquamarine’.
There have been other surprising images, such as that of Iggy Pop leaving his concert inside a coffin, or those of Radiohead’s bunker, made up of a film and artistic installation inspired by their albums ‘KID A’ and ‘Amnesiac’.
Nor can we fail to highlight at least two shows of special interest that took place this weekend at Coachella: firstly, the return to the festival of The xx, who had already returned live days ago in Mexico; and the combo of Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize, now Nine Inch Noize, who have offered their first complete set. From Spain we have had Carolina Durante, Rusowsky and Mestiza, as in previous years with Cariño or Judeline.
