Alanis Morissette has sued her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, accusing him of trying to blackmail her over a drug-related matter. According to media reports such as Billboard, the lawsuit was filed this Tuesday, September 1, in a federal court in California and accuses Urinov of extortion, fraud and negligent misrepresentation.
The matter dates back to Morissette’s 2025 European tour, which took the singer from the United Kingdom to Spain and, specifically, went to Mad Cool in Madrid and the Cruïlla Festival in Barcelona.
Alanis gave two magnificent performances in Spain while facing this difficult professional matter. According to the lawsuit, during the trip from the United Kingdom, the then tour manager was detained at a British airport after authorities found marijuana and xylazine, a tranquilizer used in veterinary medicine, in her luggage. Urinov reportedly explained that the marijuana was his and showed an Israeli medical permit.
The alleged blackmail would have come after the tour: Morissette accuses Urinov of sending her increasingly threatening letters, ensuring that she would inform the British police that the drugs belonged to the singer if she did not agree to hire her as a manager for 15 years.
The agreement would also include salary increases, bonuses and help to be able to work in the United States. The lawsuit seeks $75,000 in damages. Urinov, for now, has not responded publicly to the accusations.
