Fran Gayo, programmer, writer and MUS member dies

Local media have announced the death of Fran Gayoone of the key pieces in the Asturian culture both in the cinematographic and musical and even literary field. It was fifty percent of Mus next to Monica Vacas.

Born in Gijón in 1970, Fran Gayo He was a musician, writer and especially responsible for prominent film festivals. He has died from cancer in Buenos Aires (Argentina), a city where he resided since he became part of the prestigious BAFICI team (International Festival of Independent Film of Buenos Aires).

Throughout his career, Gayo published various albums with Monica Vacas with the minimalist pop group Mus as “Zuma” (97), “Pigaz” (98), “Fai” (99), “Soul” (00), “The Naval” (02), “Divine Lluz” (04) and “Life” (07), the last three published by watercolor and in which the Asturian language had a very important weight. In 2009 he released a solo album called “The next harvests” – also in watercolor– and in 2022 he published the novel “The Christmas of the Wolves”a work in which he went to his family roots.

As for his career in the world of cinema, he always starred from festivals. From 1997 to 2009 he was responsible for programming at the Gijón International Film Festival, FICX, to go from there to the OUFF Film Festival teams, the cinematographic programming of the Niemeyer center or the aforementioned BAFICI.
