Father John Misty parodies Kendrick Lamar’s “diss track”

Father John Misty is having the most random discus throw of his career. ‘Mahashmashana’, the American’s sixth album, came out the same day that Kendrick Lamar decided to release his new surprise album, ‘GNX’. In addition, Cher has learned of the singer-songwriter’s existence.

Josh Tillman and Kendrick Lamar have a curious history together. Since the rapper’s second album in 2012, ‘good kid, mAAd city’, both have released their projects in the same year. Usually weeks or even days apart. Until now, the greatest closeness occurred in 2017, when Lamar released ‘DAMN’ just a week after the release of the mammoth ‘Pure Comedy’.

However, today was the last straw, since the two released their album on the same day. For this reason, both Father John Misty and his fans have taken to the meme, joking about what happened: “Not now, I’m furiously scribbling my response,” Tillman wrote in X.

Shortly after, he uploaded a new song to Instagram, which was soon described as a “diss track” to Kendrick. The confusion is intentional, as it parodies the cover of the recent songs dedicated to Drake. In reality, the song is called ‘God’s Trash’ and it had already been revealed at some of the singer-songwriter’s concerts.

Even so, it didn’t take long for the internet to fill up with memes. One in particular is a mashup of ‘She Cleans Up’ and ‘tv off’ in which Lamar raps over Misty’s guitars. He reacted like this: “Dude, how?” Another fan tried to cheer him up with a joke: “I’m sorry you released an album on the worst possible day to release an album.” Misty has taken it with humor: “It’s okay, the only other times it has happened alone were 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2022.”
