Underscores is the artistic alias of April Harper Gray, singer, songwriter and producer based in San Francisco that carries a blur for pop-punk, the Dubstep, Hyperpop and electronic music. Lately you have heard her accompanying Oklou in her single ‘Harvest Sky’.
Underscores productions like to twist guitars and synthesizers and can be as crazy as’ Likes Like Us) ‘, as pop-p-pink as’ Cops and Robbers, as danceable as’ Stupid (Can’t Run from the urge)’ or as reasons as’ The Fish Song ‘, versioned by Oklou on her last tour. April has explored these styles already along two albums.
The third is presented with ‘Music’ and promises a radical turn towards electronics. ‘Music’ starts from where April left him in ‘Poplife’, his recent single with Umru (artist linked to PC Music) and is a clear “Banger Club” that negotiates with various styles in a very funny way: he has the pulse of the electro, the acceleration of the Hyperpop and the explosion of the Dubstep of its final minute. It shows that undercores is a Skrillex fan, but Skrillex has never sounded exactly like that.
‘Music’ presents a double meaning. On the one hand, the “music” described in the song is a simple metaphor of falling in love. April has met someone and feels again the “harmony” inside. The “BPM” of the heart are very fast.
On the other hand, ‘Music’ is an ode in the way in which generation Z – she is born in 2000- understands music, without barriers or prejudices. “Pop, Rock, Electronics, Rap, Rock ‘N Roll, Avant-Garde, music is all for me,” Underscores proclaims in the song, delivered to music.
