Eusebio Poncela dies, actor of ‘The Law of Desire’ and ‘Arrebato’

Eusebio Poncela, iconic actor, protagonist of films as important as ‘The Law of Desire’ and ‘Arrebato’, has died at age 79. According to El País, citing as sources to figures in its surroundings, Poncela has died at his home in El Escorial because of cancer he had suffered for a year.

Poncela’s first role already served him to always be part of the history of Spanish cinema, playing José Sirgado in ‘Arrebato’ (1979), directed by Iván Zulueta. The Madrid actor was also an important figure of the Almodóvar universe, starring ‘Matador’ (1986) and, above all, ‘The Law of Desire’ (1987), which made him a benchmark in the queer world.

In addition to working in almost 60 films, series and plays, being nominated in 2001 to a Goya award for the movie ‘Intact’, Poncela also had a passion for painting.
