Espanto, the group made up of Riojans Teresa and Luis, to whom we owe some of the most personal albums that Spanish pop has produced in the last decade, such as ‘Ísimos y érrimos’ (2011), ‘Rock n’ Roll’ (2012) ‘Fruta y verdura’ (2016) or, most recently, ‘Cemento’ (2021) is back with a new album. ‘Rumores’ will be their next release in Austro-Hungarian and the first preview is already available.
In ‘The Last Rumor’, Espanto tells the story of a rumor that reaches “all the way to the town” and travels “from mouth to mouth” “flapping its wings.” In the lyrics, Teresa and Luis never reveal what rumor it is, but they do confess that “we didn’t want to hear it” and that, in fact, they are subject to such gossip: “They were talking about us, the voices in the wind,” he sings. Teresa.
To tell the story of ‘The Last Rumor’, Espanto chooses a definitively electronic sound, similar to that of his 2021 song ‘Photos with the Authorities’. On the one hand, the keyboard draws a happy and pizpireta melody that flies over the base. On the other hand, the electronic drums are animated by the fast and mechanical rhythm of the German motorik. It is already known that rumors spread like wildfire.
