Elmiene is one of the strongest promises of the R&B and the neo Soul out of the United Kingdom. With figures like Elton John praising his singles, last Monday he visited the God Café in Madrid to perform a showcase as intimate as majestic in which everything revolved around music and his relaxed personality.
A Real Madrid tracksuit, a keyboard and a micro was everything the young British artist needed to leave an audience open even to 50 people. Without stopping, Elmiene went from one theme to another effortlessly and with hardly any transitions. He had the showcase of the place behind him, so every little time anyone who passed by stopped to look at who was the incredible voice that came out of the establishment.
‘Someday’ and ‘Light Work’, two of his greatest singles, followed each other before the drowned shouts of some people. The same with ‘Useless (Without You)’, the only single of his last project and the song of the day. After all, the room was occupied by the largest fans of ElMiene in the capital. Hence the intimate element of the ‘Live From’ show: «Little shows for the largest fans».
In ‘Useless (Without You)’, Elmiene rescues the sound of the R&B from the early 2000s while sings to the stupidity of “sleeping with the lights on” or the uselessness of “touching the keys with my guitar.” Basically, the world of the British changes completely for not being with the person he loves: “Without you, I didn’t have to live my life,” he sangs in the chorus.
The artist also stole the public’s hearts thanks to a relaxed and fun personality, in contrast to the soul of many of his pieces. At one point, he asked us to help him sing the song ‘Mama’: “For something I have come from so far,” he joked. The choirs were shy at the beginning, but there was nothing to fear at the third round.
