Ella Langley breaks records with her traditionalist country-pop

Ella Langley threatens Mariah Carey’s record in the US

As we mentioned in our Grammys article, Ella Langley is the big favorite in the Best New Artist category, and it’s thanks to ‘Choosin’ Texas’. Now the song has just made history: it has reached its 20th week at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the non-Christmas song that has spent the longest time at the top of the list. Thus, ‘Choosin’ Texas’ surpasses the 19 weeks of ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus and ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ by Shaboozey.

With 20 weeks, ‘Choosin’ Texas’ is already the second song with the most number 1s in the history of the Hot 100, only behind Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, which has 22. She could reach or even surpass that record in the coming weeks, although when Christmas comes, Mariah will return, like every year, to claim her throne. ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ has accumulated those 22 weeks at the top during different Christmas seasons.

From Spain it may be a little difficult to gauge such a phenomenon, since ‘Choosin’ Texas’ has not even entered our official singles list, nor does it seem like it will do so in the near future. Spain has never been a strong point for country.

Outside, however, it’s another story: in addition to number 1 in the United States, it has been number 3 in the United Kingdom and number 1 in Ireland, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It has also reached the top 10 in the Netherlands and the top 5 in Norway, in addition to entering the lists of numerous countries in Europe and Latin America.

So yes, Ella Langley, a big favorite for Best New Artist at the next Grammys, now has another small goal ahead of her: dethroning Mariah Carey, although probably only until Christmas arrives.
