Ela Minus, with ‘DÍA’, and Nick León, with ‘A Tropical Entropy’, each published one of the best albums of 2025. Both had also collaborated in the past, for example on ‘Ghost Orchid’, from his album, and on a remix of ‘QQQQQ’, from her album. Now, Minus and León announce a collaborative EP, ‘Qué Les Pasó a Mis Amigos?’, which can be heard starting August 7.
The musical “affinity” that Ela and Nick felt as soon as they entered the studio, as Ela Minus relates, was “immediate”, and is perceived in the EP’s advance single, ‘spiral’, where the synergy between the techno energy of Ela Minus and the exquisite dembow touch of ‘A Tropical Entropy’ results in one of the most irresistible club bangers you will hear this summer.
While the ‘spiral’ music hypnotizes – and that is, evidently, the intention of today’s Song Of The Day – the lyrics convey a sense of desperation and suffocation in the face of a relationship that is proving harmful. Ela gives everything “to get out” of there, she wonders why she didn’t see before that the person she had to take care of was so close (“How did I not see that it was you who had to take care of me?”) and describes a feeling of fear and paralysis: “I feel like the exit is a trap / And if I fall / I’ll never get out again.” In a ‘spiral’ it’s like daydreaming.
