Dua Lipa sues a brand for using her image to sell televisions

The superstar Dua Lipa has filed a fifteen million dollar lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using his image without authorization.

According to the complaint filed in California, the company would have used a photograph of the artist on promotional boxes for its products, creating the impression that the singer officially endorsed the brand. Dua Lipa’s legal team maintains that neither permission was requested nor financial compensation offered for the use of the image.

The lawsuit also claims that when the artist discovered the campaign and asked Samsung to stop using the photograph, the company responded in a “derogatory” manner and refused to remove the promotional material.

The court document indicates that the image used was taken backstage during the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival and that the rights belong to the singer herself. It also maintains that Samsung would have benefited financially from the implicit association between the artist and its products.

Among the evidence included in the lawsuit are posts from users on social networks who claimed to have bought the televisions precisely because of the presence of Dua Lipa on the packaging, reinforcing the idea of alleged commercial support.

The case includes accusations of copyright violation, misuse of image rights and violation of federal laws related to trademarks and false advertising. At this time, Samsung has not made any public statements regarding the lawsuit.

The news comes as Dua Lipa continues to expand her activity beyond music, after recently participating in the London Literature Festival and making a surprise appearance at a Tame Impala concert in London.
