Dua Lipa has sued Samsung for allegedly using her image without authorization on television boxes sold in the United States. The singer claims at least $15 million for copyright infringement, misuse of her image and trademark violation.
According to the lawsuit filed on May 8 in California, Samsung would have used a photo of Dua Lipa taken at the Austin City Limits festival on different television boxes. The artist assures that she has never given her consent for this commercial use.
The case came to light after users on social networks began to talk about the so-called “Dua Lipa TV Box.” One comment went so far as to state: “if you need to sell a product, just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.” According to the lawsuit filed by Lipa, Samsung has ignored several requests to remove the products from the market.
According to the complaint, “Samsung’s copying and distribution of DL’s image constitutes a deliberate infringement of copyright and trademark rights, as well as a violation of Ms. Lipa’s image rights, with the aim of taking undue advantage of the artist’s hard-won success to promote and sell Samsung products.”
