Rodrigo Cuevas was the guest this Thursday at La Revuelta to promote his third album, ‘Manual de Belleza’. Cuevas has starred in a memorable musical performance of ‘Mundo Happy’, ‘BLZA’ and ‘Sácame a baile’, recorded in a luxury bar, which featured the participation of two guest artists present on her album, Ana Belén and Mala Rodríguez, as well as cameos by Samantha Hudson and Paco Clavel.
With his visit, David Broncano’s program has repaired the “historical mistake” of never having invited the Asturian singer, not even for the duration of La Resistencia, and it is not us who say it – that too -, but Rozalén, who starred in a curious intervention crouched from the box, where she was watching the program trying to go unnoticed, until Cuevas pointed out her presence on set. Rozalén is withdrawn from the public eye, and not even when Cuevas started singing a song for Rozalén to follow him did she dare to accompany him.
There were other moments where Cuevas tried to win over the audience, such as when he vindicated Selena Quintanilla singing ‘Amor Forbidden’, while the audience wondered if that Selena was the one from ‘I want to dance’. His improvised contest to give away double tickets to his tour, to 4 or 5 people who exhibited a rare talent, managed to involve part of the public, although without much enthusiasm.
Where Cuevas did shine as the charismatic performer that he is was in his vindication of folklore and his criticism of patriotism. «People like to be patriotic but they don’t like to work hard; “They don’t like knowledge, they like the shell: the bracelet, the flag, what differentiates them from the others but which, in the end, is of no use.” “What is really useful,” said the Asturian, “is knowing the folklore of your people, speaking the language spoken in your region: that is respecting your ancestors, those who brought you so much culture.”

Cuevas’ criticism of the slowness of legal action by the Spanish left was also applauded. He demanded the freedom of the six from La Switzerland, still in prison “for practicing unionism and defending a co-worker,” and noted that they have been “waiting for a long time for the pardon promised by the Government.” The singer criticized that the left acts too slowly, in contrast to the speed with which the right promotes its measures when it reaches power.

On the other hand, Cuevas brought to La Revuelta a much-needed and much-requested dose of sissy humor to compensate for the program’s tendency toward brother-in-law humor, which Rigoberta Bandini rightly described as a “turnip field.” Cuevas laughed at his own pen while he said that he had practiced boxing and asked Broncano if double penetration scores double in the classic question about sexual relationships, placing his number of relationships in the last month in three figures, to the disbelief of the presenter and musicians.
