Don Omar announced yesterday that he had cancer. On his networks, he published a brief message in which he was optimistic about his illness. «Today yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer. Good intentions are well received. See you soon”.
It seems that, in some way, his prediction has come true, after making another post this afternoon in which he assures that he no longer suffers from the disease: «Today I woke up cancer-free and grateful. Thank you for your good wishes, prayers and thousands of messages. My operation was a success and now I have to recover,” the singer said on his social networks. Although he has not revealed the type of cancer, it is hard to believe that his battle against the disease lasted less than 24 hours.
Don Omar, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, is considered the “king of reggaeton.” Born in Puerto Rico 46 years ago, his portfolio of multimillion-dollar hits has been dizzying since the release of his debut album, ‘The Last Don’, in 2003. ‘Danza Kuduro’, ‘Dile’, ‘Virtual Diva’, ‘Dale don Dale ‘, ‘Salió el sol’ or ‘Guaya Guaya’ are a few of the massive hits that Don Omar has released over the last two decades. Lately, Don Omar has collaborated with artists such as Bad Bunny or Maluma, and his latest album, ‘Forever King’, dates back to 2023.
Don Omar has just completed the first part of his tour of the United States and Canada, a tour that would officially resume on August 7. It is unknown what will happen to this leg of the tour, once the news of his illness is known.
