Doechii, woman of the year in Billboard, acts with Ms. Lauryn Hill

Doechii has been appointed woman of the year by Billboard, and will collect her prize at the ceremony that is held on March 29 on the YouTube Theater of Hollywood Park, Inglewood, in California.

Doechii is just the third woman that Rising Star scale directly to women of the year in the Billboard, after Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

2025 is being the year of Doechii thanks to the success of its viral single ‘Denial Is a River’ and its third Mixtape, ‘Aligator Bites Never Heal’ (2024), awarded this year with the Grammy for Best Rap album. Lately, Doechii has appeared as a guest artist on albums by Jennie, Katy Perry and Banks, and has released her single ‘Anxiety’.

Doechii joins a list of artists named Woman of the Year by Billboard that includes Karol G, Sza, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. The gala usually gives place to very commented moments, such as Madonna’s historic speech in 2016 or Taylor Swift in 2019, in which the “most influential artist” of his generation called.

Billboard’s Women’s Gala, this year, will be presented by Laverne Cox and will feature the musical performances of some of the award -winning artists, specifically Aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Glorilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long and Tyla.

On the other hand, Doechii has been news these days for appearing in a concert by Ms. Lauryn Hill in Miami to sing ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’. Doechii has declared that ‘The Misduction of Lauryn Hill’ (1998) is the album that aroused his interest in rap and music in general.
