Kim Gordon continues heading towards the release of his third studio album, which he will soon publish under the name “Play Me”. Now he premieres “Dirty Tech.”
Kim Gordon –who was bassist of Sonic Youth and member of projects such as Free Kitten– has released “Dirty Tech,” the second single from his upcoming and third solo album. “Play Me” will come out March 13 through Matador Records. This preview explores the power struggle between humans and robots. The song is visually complemented by a video clip directed by Moni Haworthin which Gordon appears in an abandoned corporate office. The album’s title track, “Not Today,” was released last month.
In this latest release, Gordon says, “I was kind of thinking, is my next boss going to be an AI chatbot?” “We’re the first ones whose lights are going out, not the tech billionaires. It’s so abstract that people can’t understand it.” By using your own abstract language to describe reality, you begin to clarify it. “Play Me” processes, in the inimitable way of Gordonthe collateral damage of the billionaire class.
Kim Gordon puts in focus the demolition of democracy, technocratic fascism, the relaxed atmosphere driven by AI that flattens culture, where black humor expresses the absurdity of modern life. Despite his frequent outward glance, “Play Me” It is an internal record, one in which the emotional overflows and pulsates through physical jams, rejecting definitive statements in favor of a curiosity that keeps Gordon searching, always in process.
