Deezer recognizes that half of the music uploaded is made with AI

Through updates on their social networks, Deezer has confirmed that half of the music uploaded to its platform is generated with artificial intelligence. They have communicated this in response to customers who are part of their community.

The French music streaming company has announced through Instagram the recognized figures of music that is uploaded to its platform daily and that is created with generative artificial intelligence. Those responsible estimate the figure at 75,000 songs created with AI, which would represent around forty-five percent of the material uploaded daily.

The revelation has raised many other questions, which have helped us discover more information about it. Deezer believes that all those AI-generated songs only represent between one and three percent of streams, and that around eighty-five percent of those listens are “fraudulent.” They also point out that these listenings are removed as soon as they are identified, so “the impact on human artists is minimal.”

Deezer installed a music detection program generated with AI exactly a year ago and subsequently decided to label this material with a label that informs about the use of artificial intelligence, directly discarding them from the recommendations of the platform’s algorithm.

Faced with criticism for hosting all this material created by AI, those responsible point out that this is a growing problem and that they hope that the “entire musical ecosystem will join us in taking actions to preserve the rights of artists and promote transparency for fans.”

At the same time, reports suggest that ninety-seven percent of listeners cannot recognize the difference between music created by people or music created with generative Artificial Intelligence.

Regardless of whether the information is a facelift or a movement to distance itself from its competition, what is evident is that it is going to be increasingly difficult to separate music generated by generative AI and that created by musicians, so it is in the hands of listeners to decide whether they are happy with the current situation or want important measures to be taken. We will see and time will tell. Although what seems more evident every day is that the true battlefield will arise fundamentally from the infringement of artists’ copyrights and not from the complaints of listeners.
